Explore all that Deal in Kent has to offer

When it comes to the Kent town of Deal, there really is so much to discover. Head to Deal Castle, a majestic Tudor artillery castle built on the orders of King Henry VIII. Discover contemporary artefacts, exciting exhibitions and dark passages beneath the bastions.

There are also gentle cycling routes connecting Deal Castle with Walmer, giving you the opportunity to get outside and experience some of the famous Kentish air.

If you’re blessed with a warm day, head down to Deal Beach. It’s the ideal spot to enjoy a brisk seaside stroll, and you can find lovely fishing boats south of the pier for that perfect holiday snapshot.

You can also buy delicious local seafood if you get there at the right time, which makes a great excuse to try out your cottage kitchen’s many modern amenities.

Take in the culture at Walmer

If you love live music, head to the Memorial Bandstand at Walmer Green. Throughout the summer, Sunday afternoons play host to the area’s best live bands, bringing together a fusion of great music, good vibes and a beautiful location. The bandstand itself is a memorial dedicated to the 11 bandsmen killed in the IRA bomb attacks on the Royal Marine Barracks, marking a very important time in Walmer’s history.

Just 1 mile away from Deal Castle is Walmer Castle and Gardens. Originally a Tudor fortress, it is now famous for housing key royal figures like the Duke of Wellington, Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mother.

The gardens are seriously impressive, offering 8 acres of restored paths and plants. Spend some time strolling through them while exploring the magic of the newly-accessible grounds.

Breathe in the fresh sea air at Kingsdown

Kingsdown is a beach-lover’s paradise. There are numerous coastal walks and cycle paths that lead you right down to the sea – perfect if you’re planning to head on holiday with your pooch.

Try the White Cliffs Country Trail, a 16-mile circular cycle route that takes you on a tour of the stunning Kent coastline before heading towards the lush green countryside. It’s quite challenging in places, but you can hop on and off the route at various points along the way.

You could also spend the day at Kingsdown Beach, a secluded half sand, half pebble beach with rock pools that kids big and small will love exploring.

On a clear day, you could even try a spot of kayaking to make the most of the calm waters. Whether you love reading a book, swimming in the sea or strolling in the sand, Kingsdown is the ultimate spot to get away from it all and relax.
