Golf in East Kent – ‘Open Weeks’

Phoebe Shipton  ·  28th June 2015

A corner of East Kent is famous for the quality of its golf courses, spearheaded by Royal St Georges, that is a fixture on the Open Championship rota, hosting the 2011 tournament most recently. But a number of other outstanding courses reside along the same stretch of coastline, and many of these open their doors for a week to visitors, who can enter tournaments in their ‘Open’ weeks.

Prince’s famous ‘Open Week’ begins on August 2nd and full details of the different competitions and eligibility criteria can be found on their website. Prince’s hosted the Open back in 1932, when Gene Saracen was the winner, and its 27 holes remain a true test of links golf. The course and club have been reinvigorated over the past decade and the course is in great condition once again.

Royal Cinque Ports at Deal has also hosted the Open back in the day and was recently awarded the Amateur Championship and plays host to regional Open Qualifying for St Andrews on June 30th. Its own Open Week begins on August 22nd and full details of competitions and criteria can be found on their website. please be aware that this is very popular, so we would encourage anyone who is interested to get in touch soon with the club.

Kingsdown Golf Club, which boasts spectacular views across the English Channel, has its open week beginning on 28th June and full details can found on its website.
