There are a number of reasons why the seaside town of Deal in Kent is a perfect and very special location for a half term, especially a spring time one.

As the weather reaches much more beach friendly temperatures, Deal is a lovely place to bring your family and spend lots quality time with them.

And here at Keeper’s Cottages, we have a fantastic range of May half term holiday houses to rent for families and couples as well as a great selection of dog friendly cottages too!

Family friendy fun in Deal, Kent

Deal is full of family friendly places! We have plenty of cafes and restaurants to take your family to for a special treat over the May half term, many of which have outside spaces in which to soak up the spring sun.

Hut 55 is located right on the beach itself, neighbouring a bike hire hut. So why not grab a coffee (parents might be in need of good coffee after a few days of half term!), some breakfast snacks and then hire bikes to take advantage of Deal’s cycle lanes on the beach?

Great places to eat out in Deal

The Slow Food Cafe in the High Street in Deal is a lovely cafe which is open Wednesday to Sunday. They serve food all day, including delicious coffee and yummy brownies!

The Rose Hotel is a new hotel that serves amazing food. It also features a lovely roof terrace on which you can catch the afternoon sun overlooking nearby St George’s Church.

The Zetland Arms can be found on the beach in nearby Kingsdown and is a wonderful spot for lunch, while the children play on the beach.

Spend the day in Walmer

If you would like to travel a little further for the day, you could even cycle the short journey to Walmer and visit Walmer Castle.

We have a number of holiday rental properties in Walmer if you prefer to stay locally. We consider ourselves very lucky to have a castle such as Walmer so close by. It is the perfect family friendly fun day out. You can teach your children about the history behind this beautiful castle as well as taking advantage of any good weather by exploring its magnificent gardens. We suggest taking a picnic and spending the whole day there, although they do have lovely tearooms with delicious treats for all the family. This English Heritage site will not disappoint!

Child friendly activites outdoors on the Kent coast

With May half term comes (fingers crossed!) the blessing of warm May weather, so why not spend as much time in the glorious sun as possible! Betteshanger Park offers the perfect opportunity to do so, with activities available everyday such as, cycling, walking and running tracks as well as lots of fun play areas.

If you and the family fancy trying something new and exciting you might want to investigate experiences such as orienteering, archery, shelter building and even fossil hunting. There is never a dull moment at Betteshanger Park as they also have plenty of nature and wildlife to observe.

Come and explore Wingham Wildlife Park

And if wildlife in particular is something that you are interested in, then we have the absolute perfect place for you: Wingham Wildlife Park!

Wingham has a vast array of animals, from domesticated rabbits and guinea pigs, to flamingos, lions and tigers. You could even book an animal encounter with penguins, meerkats and even otters.

This family friendly place does not want you to miss out on a single moment – they even have information about feeding times on their website so you can catch an extra special glimpse at your favourite animals.

And for fans of the T-Rex, Wingham have even managed to do the impossible and bring the dinosaurs back from the dead (no really – they have!)

You and your family can walk about the dinosaur enclosure – with no risk of any children being eaten. They have over 20 different dinosaurs for you to marvel at. By offering all of this and much more, Wingham Wildlife Park is definitely on our visiting list for a May half term stay in Deal!

We consider ourselves to be hugely pet friendly at Keepers Cottages – so please do browse our selection of cottages where both you and your dogs are welcome.
