Music and Art in the heart of Deal this week

Phoebe Shipton  ·  24th June 2014

Good Morning from Keeper’s very own local artist, Maria Carleton,

I am writing to tell you all about the exciting weekend ahead in downtown Deal that kicks off on FRIDAY 27th June.  Deal and Walmer is a slice of paradise when you want/need/should have a break in one of Keepers many selective individual cottages/houses/apartments.

Deal has been home to many – smugglers, fishermen, publicans, the navy and The Royal Marines.  As a result music literally flows through the veins of its inhabitants as many of the Deal-ites  have been Marines, descendants of Marine’s or perhaps brushed up against a Marine in one way or another!

Being how music is the food of love The Deal Festival ( kicks off at The Astor Theatre ( fronted by Harry the Piano on Friday 27th June and the festival runs for two weeks until Sunday 6th July in a variety of fascinating venues in and around Deal – Walmer, St Margaret’s, Dover and Sandwich.  A must for any visitor to Deal – forget about the hills the town is alive with the sound of music and your soul will be too!

Hand in hand, running at the same time as the Music Festival is SEAS – what is SEAS???? You may ask yourselves – “SEAS”??? – South East Artist Studios – is an eye watering experience – the artists of Deal and the surrounding areas through open their studio doors to let you – yes!! – the good people of Elsewhere come in and view and buy their work – some artists are born and bred Dealites and others have come as far as cosmopolitan London to make Deal the centre of their creative universe – such as the artist Maria Carleton who captures humour with the stroke of a brush and should you wish, will recreate your illustrious ancestors in paint.  This year she has invited a guest artist Nanette Greenblatt – music connection – if you were into 80’s indie bands – you will know her as the lead singer of “Native Hipsters” with “There Goes Concorde Again”.  Just an aside – Maria also rents out her house – four bedrooms/two reception rooms/two bathrooms with a garden through Keeper’s

Here are a couple of Maria’s paintings.

Lots of love to you all!  Keeper’s is the word!
