Christmas Activities: Walmer Castle

Phoebe Shipton  ·  16th December 2017

Experience the grounds of Walmer Castle “in a whole new light” during this special time of year when they are lit up for Christmas. The gardens have been festooned in twinkling fairy lights, and there’s an illuminated trail you can follow that leads you round the grounds. It’s extremely colourful and magical, for the whole family. Be sure to wrap up warm as it is an outdoor event.

Upon arrival you’ll be handed a lantern to guide you around the trail. These are LED tea lights, so they’re safe for children to hold, This is a great chance to get in the festive spirit, something for all ages and that the whole family can enjoy together.

The Queen Mother’s garden is a highlight, with coloured lights entangled with the foliage and creating stunning reflections in the icy pond. Follow the trail up the staircase where you can enjoy a stunning view of the grounds. Even the cannons have been lit up for the occasion. The coloured lights lead you down a path back towards the castle where you can enjoy hot drinks and mince pies inside. Theres also a chance to sample some hot mulled wine and meads in the little shop, a welcome treat after the cold walk round. There’s lots of last minute christmas gift buying opportunities, as the shop downstairs is also crammed with unique items on the way out.
