West Cliff is set in the wonderful coastal town of Whitstable, occupying a quietly confident position close to the sea where the town’s coastal character feels especially present. The shoreline is within very easy reach, making it simple to enjoy morning swims, breezy walks along the beach or unhurried evenings watching the light fade across the water. Sea Scrub Sauna is a must visit for sea swimmers!
This part of Whitstable feels settled and residential, offering a relaxed pace while remaining closely connected to the town. A short walk brings you to Whitstable’s working harbour, where fishing boats, oyster dredgers and colourful huts create the town’s unmistakable atmosphere. Harbour Street and the High Street are filled with independent shops, galleries, cafés and record stores, alongside bakeries, delis and well-loved pubs that reward slow wandering. Seafood is never far away, whether enjoyed straight from a harbour hut or as part of a long lunch overlooking the sea.
For exploring further, the Whitstable Coastal Trail runs in both directions towards Herne Bay and Tankerton, offering scenic walking and cycling routes along the shoreline. Inland, the Crab and Winkle Way leads through countryside and woodland to Canterbury. Whitstable railway station provides direct services to London, making West Cliff an excellent base for short seaside escapes or longer stays immersed in the rhythm of coastal life.
