It’s Carnival time

Deal Regatta and Carnival Week organised by the Deal, Walmer and Kingsdown Regatta Association is packed full of activities and events for the whole family to enjoy.  It starts tomorrow (Saturday 25 July) with the family-oriented Teddy Bears picnic on Walmer Green at 3.30pm.  Sunday 26 July is action packed with the Deal Tri 10k road race, followed by swim race, raft race and lorry pull on Deal’s seafront. The traditional Carnival parade takes place on Thursday 30 July – watch the parade, packed full of decorated floats, journey along The Strand and onto Beach Street and the Marina.

Invicta Sounds disco invites you to join the ‘Party on the Green’ on Saturday evening (26th), again on Walmer Green between 7 pm and 9 pm and with a fireworks display at 9.30pm.

Sunday (26th) really is a fun day both for those taking part and spectators. The Dinosaur 10k run starts at 10.00am outside the Walmer Sea Scout Hut with a 1500m fun run for children and a 10k road race along the seafront to Kingsdown and back again for the adults. Following on from the Dinosaur Race starting at 1.30, is the 2015 open Water Regatta swim race starting from the Downs Sailing Club to Deal Pier. The 750 metre raft race, follows the swimming, again leaving from Downs Sailing Club so bag your spot on the pier or on the beach to watch this hugely entertaining event – will the rafts sink or swim! Beach Street will be cordoned off (in front of the Bohemian opposite the Pier) for the annual lorry pull. This 30-metre timed event brings an eclectic collection of teams together all trying to win. For the children, there is a Hop Scotch Championship opposite the pier at 1 pm.

Throughout the week, Forrest’s Family Funfair is on Walmer Green with fun rides and attractions – 2.30 pm – 10.00pm.

An independent event is also taking place this weekend. Saturday 25th August sees Kingsdown Rocks at Kingsdown and Ringwould School –  a music festival with children’s activities, barbecue, real ale tent and refreshments. Entry is £8 for adults and £4 children.
