Set on the edge of Romney Marsh, Dungeness is one of Kent’s most captivating landscapes. Beautiful in its contrasts, rare wildlife flourishes across its vast shingle expanse, amongst echoes of its fishing past and striking contemporary architecture. Its industrial edge makes this wild stretch of coast feel unexpected, otherworldly and endlessly inspiring. Stay close by in one of our holiday cottages near Dungeness and experience it for yourself
Dungeness has a way of making you feel like you’ve ventured somewhere far beyond the Kent coast. Across the shingle, unusual architectural homes sit amongst the weathered remnants of its past. Artists and creatives such as Derek Jarman have left their mark on this remote landscape. Its distinctive scenery appears across film, photography and even on a Pink Floyd album cover.
Spend some time here and you’ll soon understand the fascination. The Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway trundles along under seemingly endless skies, while the old lighthouse and power station provide a dramatic backdrop. Wander a little further and you’ll discover weathered fishing boats littered along the shoreline where wildlife has quietly made its home. See our guide to things to do in Dungeness for even more inspiration.
