Cosy Cottages With Pub Walks in Kent

27 October 2026
Holly Price

Cosy cottages in Kent are a particular specialty of ours. Whether you want to gather your nearest and dearest in a picture-perfect farmhouse or whisk your better half away to a cosy seaside cottage, we know just the place for it. We’re firm believers that the colder temperatures and wild weather of the quiet months are something to be celebrated. After all, when is it more acceptable to draw the curtains early, light the fires and relax? When else does the sparkle of frost on a cold, crisp day invite excitement at a leisurely countryside walk? Winter – or ‘cosy season’ is the perfect time to get away.

Below, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite cosy season stays – at each one, you’ll find:

  • An open fire or wood burning stove for maximum cosiness
  • A roll-top bath for soothing soaks
  • A cosy pub, accessible on foot from your doorstep
  • A pet-friendly policy, because long winter walks are better with your four-legged friend in tow.

Skippers, Deal

If wonky walls, wizened beams and wide floorboards get your heart rate up, Skippers is the perfect choice for a bucolic break. A characterful, three-storey cottage in the heart of Deal’s Georgian conservation area, Skippers boasts a large inglenook fireplace in the sitting room, with an eclectic mix of furniture throughout.

Just steps from both the seafront and the bustling town centre, the cottage sits in a wonderful position for browsing the range of shops, restaurants and other attractions nearby. For a winter’s walk that ends in a cosy pub, we’d suggest a walk along the seafront before returning to The Ship Inn for interiors that have remained largely unchanged, or The Deal Hoy for seriously good pizza.

Water Farm House, Stowting

Water Farm House is a fairytale come to life, with history reaching back to 1689 and interiors handsome enough to make you ache. Nestled in a scenic spot on the North Downs Way, the property couldn’t be better placed for bracing winter walks to the local pub (which just happens to be the wonderfully welcoming Tiger Inn in Stowting) and for simply escaping it all.

Sleeping up to 12 across 5 bedrooms, this sprawling home is just the choice for a multigenerational family trip, or a relaxed reunion between friends. With colourful woven throws, terracotta tiles, yawning floorboards and two inglenook fireplaces, there is quite literally nowhere we would rather hunker down for a sublime stay with loved ones.

Oyster Bay | Whitstable Holiday Cottages

Oyster Bay, Whitstable

A characterful cottage with a joyful, colourful refresh, Oyster Bay is full of thoughtful touches and cosy corners. Beautifully renovated by its owners alongside a local interior designer, this two-bedroom home sits in the heart of Whitstable, a short stroll from the working harbour, the beachfront and easy access to the Saxon Shore Way.

With pretty wallpapers, panelling and original artwork throughout, this charming escape is a welcome retreat in any season, but the ‘ber months bring with them dramatic crimson sunsets, evenings curled up by the wood burner and the suggestion of fresh Whitstable oysters and champagne overlooking the harbour. Upstairs, a roll top bath is waiting for a long soak after a blustery walk along the shingle. For that cosy pub experience, wrap up warm and find your way to Old Neptune orThe Duke of Cumberland.

Cliffeside Cottage, Kingsdown

It doesn’t get much more heavenly than having direct beach access from your cosy cottage via a picket gate, onto a laneway named ‘Shrimp Lane.’ That’s exactly what you’ll find at Cliffeside Cottage, perched almost atop the pebbles of Kingsdown Beach, with welcoming interiors that feel wonderfully curated.

Expect soothing colour palettes that draw on the cottage’s period character and original features such as cast-iron fireplaces, box sash windows and picture rails. Although it has been recently renovated to a high standard, the cosiness of Cliffeside is still very much present. It’s dog-friendly, which means you and your best friend can pull on wellies and waterproofs to enjoy the scenic stomp to the Zetland Arms, or further afield to St Margarets-at-Cliffe, where The Smugglers Inn awaits with hops-strung beams and good food.

Living room at holiday home in Broadstairs, Kent

The Serene House, Broadstairs

Whatever imagery you’ve conjured up after reading the name of this property, allow us to assure you that it certainly measures up. The Serene House is a glorious Grade II listed home dating back to 1603, with original features aplenty. While lots of wonderful character remains, the property has been painstakingly refreshed to offer the indulgences of today’s era, with marshmallow-soft seating, a well-equipped kitchen and a woodburning stove occupying the impressive inglenook.

One small dog is very welcome, and when you can bear to pull yourself away from this storybook setting, we suggest a wander to The Honeysuckle Inn in neighbouring Ramsgate for 17th-century charm, Sonder for something more local, or Tartar Frigate for a seafood spin on pub classics.

  • 7 nights from £1096

The Old Smoke House, Deal

Looking for a whimsical cottage with interiors reminiscent of Iris’ abode in The Holiday? The Old Smokehouse in Deal is perfect – complete with a clawfoot tub tucked under the eaves, perfectly positioned beside a Victorian casement window. Unlike the fictional Rosehill Cottage, The Old Smoke House isn’t surrounded by the rolling Surrey Hills but it does, however, enjoy sea views from the rear bedroom window and is just a hop, skip and jump from the seafront itself.

Everything from the enchanting floral wallpaper to the enclosed winder staircase exudes cosiness. To continue on that theme for a walk, we suggest heading out along the seafront and following the coastal path to Walmer before reaching the beachfront Zetland Arms at Kingsdown.

  • Sleeps 4
  • 7 nights from £794

Violet Cottage, Kingsdown

Occupying an impossibly glorious setting, Violet Cottage offers direct beach access via the garden gate and sparkling sea views from two out of three bedrooms. Inside, it is the ultimate family escape, bedecked with boardgames, a large enough dining table for everyone and an inviting sitting room with a log burner and bookcase.

Unmistakably influenced by its seaside surroundings, the interiors are inviting yet airy, which may be just the tonic for those seeking open skies in the depths of winter. Violet Cottage is ideal for walking the England Coast Path, and is just seconds from The Zetland Arms, a postcard-perfect pub on the beach.

  • Sleeps 6 (x2 in bunk beds)
  • 7 nights from £916
