There is a lovely local pub in Wickhambreaux, along with a very sweet tea rooms and of course fantastic countryside walks. Canterbury is a 12 to 14 minute drive away and is full of things to do including The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury Cathedral, multiple cinemas and plenty of fantastic places to eat and drink (our favourite spots include Franc, The Goods Shed, Fringe & Ginge, and Cafe Des Aims). Other towns such as Sandwich, Deal and Whitstable are all within easy reach, taking no longer than 25 minutes in the car.
No, The Rose Inn is a family run pub which was built in the 1300s and closes each day at 8.30pm each evening, so there is no noise in the evenings. The pub welcomes everyone from children to dogs, and is perfect for a quick bite to eat or Sunday lunches that last all day long.
Yes, a starter pack of logs, firelighters and kindling is provided between the end of September and the end of March. You can buy further supplies at local farm shops or most petrol stations.
Yes, absolutely! There is a little stream that runs at the very bottom of the garden, but this can be fenced off for very small children, if needed. Bell House garden is ideal for families as there is a large patio with outside furniture, as well as a BBQ and large lawn for sunny days spent outside.
No, but there is a cafetiere and a stovetop espresso maker, which you are welcome to use throughout your stay. Please note that we do not provide any coffee and you will need to bring this with you.
Bell House is set in the heart of Wickhambreaux, one of Kent’s most picturesque villages, surrounded by rolling countryside and gently winding lanes. With its village green, historic church and traditional pub, Wickhambreaux feels wonderfully timeless and offers a peaceful base for a rural escape. The surrounding landscape is ideal for walking, with footpaths leading through farmland, woodland and along the nearby Little Stour river.
The village itself is home to a much-loved pub and tearoom, while neighbouring villages offer farm shops, local butchers and cosy country pubs. Just a short drive away, the historic city of Canterbury provides a striking contrast, with its famous cathedral, cobbled streets, independent shops and lively café culture. The mediaeval Cinque Port town of Sandwich is also close by, perfect for a day of wandering narrow streets, riverside walks and relaxed dining.
For exploring further afield, the Kent coast is easily reached, with the beaches of Deal, Sandwich Bay and Whitstable all within comfortable driving distance. Canterbury West station offers high-speed rail services to London (in under an hour), making Bell House an ideal choice for both restorative countryside breaks and longer stays exploring Kent’s coast and countryside.
