St Margaret's Bay

Carmel Cottage is set in the heart of St Margaret’s Bay, a peaceful coastal village nestled beneath the iconic White Cliffs of Dover. Just moments from the beach, the bay offers a wonderfully unspoilt stretch of shoreline, perfect for bracing walks, rock pooling and watching the ever-changing light across the English Channel. The surrounding countryside and coastline feel refreshingly open, with far-reaching views and a strong connection to nature.

The village itself has a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, with a village shop, tearooms and well-regarded pubs serving good food and local ales. Coastal footpaths lead directly from the bay to South Foreland Lighthouse and along the clifftops towards Dover, offering some of the most dramatic walking routes on Kent’s Heritage Coast. The nearby Pines Calyx provides a quieter inland escape, with beautifully managed gardens and a café set within its unique architecture.

For wider exploration, Dover Castle and the historic towns of Deal, Canterbury and Sandwich are all within easy reach. Walmer and Kingsdown are close by for coastal walks and traditional seaside days out. Deal and Dover railway stations provide convenient links to London, making Carmel Cottage an ideal base for restorative short breaks or longer stays on the Kent coast.
