There is free on-street parking right outside the cottage on Reading Street, so you will not need to worry about finding a space or paying for a permit. Being tucked away on such a quiet street, just next to Staple Bakery, it is an easy spot to unload and settle in for your stay. It may be worth noting that this is on-street parking rather than a private drive or dedicated space, so it is worth keeping that in mind if you are travelling with more than one car.
Yes, the garden is perfect for dogs as it is completely enclosed.
Liberty Cottage is a short stroll from the beach, with Joss Bay and Stone Bay both around 15 to 20 minutes on foot, and Viking Bay a little further along the coast. Joss Bay holds Blue Flag status and has a gently shelving sandy beach that is ideal for families, with a seasonal childrens play area, cafe and toilets close by. Stone Bay is the quieter option, tucked beneath the chalk cliffs and popular for rock pooling. Both are dog friendly outside peak summer hours, with restrictions in place between 10am and 6pm from 1 May to 30 September, so it's worth checking before a summer visit with a four-legged friend.
You're in luck, Staple is just a few doors along on Reading Street. It's a small artisan bakery and cafe known for its sourdough, pastries and cruffins, with coffee from local Curve Coffee Roasters. It is a wonderful way to start the morning before heading down to the beach or retreating back to the property to cosy up by the fire and read the paper.
As well as Charles Dickens (he wrote his one of his most famous novels David Copperfield in Broadstairs and there is a Dickens festival in summer complete with Victorian cricket on Viking beach!) John Buchan wrote The 39 Steps in Broadstairs (the 39 steps refers to the steps down to the beach from the house where he stayed) and there is also a literary festival in spring
The town is famed for its connection to Charles Dickens, with Bleak House overlooking Viking Bay and the Dickens House Museum close by. Viking Bay itself is a real highlight, framed by chalk cliffs and a promenade lined with cafés and ice cream parlours. The town centre offers an excellent mix of independent shops, restaurants and traditional pubs, while the harbour area provides a picturesque backdrop for leisurely afternoons.
Broadstairs hosts a blues festival in the spring as well a folk week in the summer to compliment the soul weekender in Margate and many of the pubs have live music at the weekend as well as the bandstand throughout the summer.
On Wednesday evenings throughout the summer there are free fireworks over Viking beach, there is a surf and stand up paddle board school at Joss Bay throughout the spring, summer and autumn and a family orientated magic bar in town which has shows, demos and courses throughout the year.
