Welcome to The Serene House, a beautifully restored cottage tucked away along a pretty row just off Broadstairs High Street and within easy walking distance of the town’s sandy beaches. A Historic Building of Kent, this charming Grade II listed house is full of original features, including exposed beams, wide wooden floorboards and an impressive inglenook fireplace. Inside, the owners have carefully balanced the history of the building with a thoughtful, high-quality renovation, creating a home that feels both stylish and wonderfully comfortable. Despite its centuries-old character, the house is surprisingly spacious, with generous rooms, and plenty of natural light filtering through the sash windows. The sitting room is a particularly lovely space, with a large sofa and footstool, comfortable armchairs and plenty of inviting corners to settle into beside the log burner. The kitchen is equally welcoming, with sage green cabinetry, timber worktops and a characterful brick and tiled floor, centred around a dining table for slow breakfasts and relaxed suppers at home. Upstairs, three comfortable bedrooms and a family bathroom await. The main bedroom has exposed beams, wooden floors, soft lighting and a useful desk space, while the charming twin room sits beneath the eaves and has been thoughtfully styled and offers flexible sleeping arrangements for children or teenagers. A further double bedroom is calm and restful, finished in soft neutral tones. The modern bathroom features a walk-in rainfall shower as well as a separate bath, perfect for a long soak after a day at the beach. Throughout the house, artwork, books, antique-style furniture and carefully chosen details add warmth and personality, while the abundance of natural light gives the interiors a fresh, airy feel that complements the building’s historic character beautifully. Outside, the private walled courtyard garden is a real highlight, with outdoor dining, seating, potted olive trees and an outdoor shower, perfect for rinsing off sandy toes before settling down for drinks and dinner outside. With Broadstairs’ independent shops, restaurants and beaches all close by, The Serene House is a very special place to stay and one that families or groups will want to return to time and time again for holidays on the Kent coast. One small dog is very welcome too.
