Holiday Homes in the Kentish Weald & Surrounding Villages
The Weald of Kent is one of those places that doesn’t announce itself. Rolling hills, ancient oak woodland, and a patchwork of villages that feel genuinely lived-in. It stretches across the southern half of the county, taking in some of Kent’s most beloved towns and landscapes.
Tenterden, often called the Jewel of the Weald, has a wide high street which is lined with independent shops, unhurried cafes, and the kind of pubs that still feel like they belong to the community. It’s a town worth lingering in. From here, the Kent and East Sussex Railway carries you through the countryside in proper steam-train style, winding towards Bodiam Castle across the border in East Sussex. Biddenden and Headcorn offer half-timbered buildings, medieval churches, and footpaths that set off across open fields with little ceremony. Biddenden Vineyards is one of England’s oldest, and well worth a visit. A short drive brings you into the market town of Cranbrook, with its working windmill and the gentle rhythm of a place that doesn’t rush.
The walking here is exceptional. The High Weald Landscape Trail and the Greensand Way both pass through the area, offering miles of well-marked paths through ancient woodland, across ridge tops, and alongside the streams and ghylls that cut through the valley floors.
The kind of place that makes you want to stay a little longer than planned.
