We really love Hut 55, in Deal.

Not only is this cute little beach hut exactly where you’d hope to find it – right on the beach, looking out to sea – but they do the best coffee (the beans are locally roasted in nearby Hoath) and pastries too.

Not to mention cakes, sandwiches and frankly anything else you might need for a walk along the seafront or a day on the beach. During the summer months, you can even hire a bike from here to explore the coast – as well as a picnic to take with you!

An added plus, the team who work there are so friendly, and nothing is too much trouble.

Best For: Grabbing breakfast by the beach

Alternatively, you might like to head to the High Street and try out The Popup Café in Deal.

Not only is their coffee divine (they take their coffee very seriously here), but you can also choose from their delicious vegetarian brunch menu, featuring favourites such as halloumi, roast sweet potato, avocado, scrambled eggs with harissa, dukka and sourdough toast. All their eggs are organic, and their milk is from a single-estate dairy. Vegans are also well catered for. While they don’t allow dogs inside, you’re more than welcome to take a seat outside with your four-legged friend.

The Popup Cafe also host seasonal events such as wine tasting and run clubs – the details of which you can find over on their Instagram.

Best for: Casual co-working & longer leisurely breakfasts

A true hub of the community, Hope & Lane is a welcoming Deal coffee shop that specialises in delicious coffee sourced from an owner-run plantation in Papua New Guinea.

They also serve up beautiful bakes and savoury options, and are exceptionally dog-friendly – rumour has it there are free dog treats for good boys and girls.

Best for: People watching over great coffee

Known locally as simply ‘Climpsons’ – this self-described day-to-night cafe brings an element of effortlessly cool Euro-cafe culture to Deal. With locations throughout London, Climpsons has branched out to Deal to give locals and visitors alike a place where they can grab their morning cortado and return for an afternoon aperitif. There’s also a daily selection of mouthwatering in-house bakes.

Best for: Social afternoon drinks that linger on into the evening

The Rose is another indisputable icon of Deal, with more than 200 years of history as a hotel and pub.

Occupying the very same spot on the high street for more than two centuries, today it is an elegant, elevated affair of impeccable interior design and a seasonal menu that celebrates the very best of local produce. It’s open seven days a week and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Serendipitously, The Rose is now owned by the same family that ran it for many years, from 1901, before it changed hands. It also has a sister restaurant which is equally popular – but more on that below!

Best for: Date night & celebrations

Bringing a delicious Japanese twist to British produce, The Blue Pelican opened in November 2023 to rave reviews, which have poured in ever since.

Expect a constant rotation of ramen, crispy tempura sides and sake martinis served with a side of Hokusai’s Great Wave.

Come for the amazing flavours, stay for the dreamy decor and ambience.

Best for: Trying new flavours with friends

The Zetland Arms can be found right on the beach in Kingsdown and offers seafood, sunsets and stunning views of the ocean – it’s truly akin to something you might find on a film set, perched directly atop the shingle and sand of Kingsdown Beach. It’s also been welcoming patrons since 1863, making it a true icon of the area.

Expect freshly caught fish and seafood straight from the Kent coast, cooked up for you for either lunch or dinner, perfect when paired with a walk along the beach. Or a cold glass of Sauvignon Blanc, as you watch the sun go down.

Best for: The wholesome Sunday roast (particularly when the fires are lit during low season!)

A wine shop and bar with – quite possibly – the best interiors you’ll find anywhere, Le Pinardier is helmed by husband and wife duo behind the beloved Frog & Scot, a lively French bistro in the heart of Deal. Anglo-French owners Sarah and Benoit have now focused their efforts solely on Le Pinardier, where you can enjoy moreish small plates, bar food and a wine list that features around 300 options.

The interiors (because you’re definitely going to wonder when you see them) were curated by the very talented Russell Loughlan of the House on Dolphin Street.

Best for: Date night, girls night, or long lunches accompanied by great wine

Describing itself as a ‘modern grocers,’ Arno & Co makes restaurant-quality snacks easily accessible, meaning you can take them away to the beach, back to bed, or absolutely anywhere you please. Think handmade salads bursting with goodness, delicious sandwiches on focaccia and a range of tempting breakfast bagels.

As well as their fresh food to go, they stock goodies from a wealth of other British suppliers, allowing you to bake pies, wellingtons and souffles in the comfort of your holiday cottage without any of the prep or washing up.
