The best coffee shops and restaurants in Deal, Kent

coffee

The team at Keeper’s Cottages all live locally and as such, live and breathe the best that Deal and the surrounding Kent coastline has to offer on a daily basis.

Not only do they know every single holiday cottage they rent inside and out, but they are also brilliantly placed to recommend everything from the best beaches for kids; where to walk the dogs and – of course – where the best places are in the area to eat and drink.

So we thought we would take a few minutes to run through some of their favourite recommendations.

Where are the best coffee shops in Deal?

Deal is blessed with a number of great, independent, coffee shops from which you can buy the perfect espresso, flat white or warming decaf skinny latte.

Here are some of our favourites:

Hut 55

Hut 55

We really love Hut 55, in Deal.

Not only is this cute little beach hut exactly where you’d hope to find it – right on the beach, looking out to sea – but they do the best coffee (the beans are locally roasted in nearby Hoath) and pastries too.

Not to mention cakes, sandwiches and frankly anything else you might need for a walk along the seafront or a day on the beach.

An added plus, the team who work there are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

You can even a hire a bike from here to explore the coast – as well as a picnic to take with you!

Hog and Bean

The Hog and Bean in Deal can be found on Victoria Road.

They are passionate about cooking locally sourced food, for that genuine flavour of Kent.

Expect to find great coffee alongside their deli offerings. You can visit for breakfast and high tea or choose from their wonderful takeaway menu too, including cakes as well as roast lunch in a box on a Sunday!

Popup Cafe

Alternatively, you might like to head to the High Street and try out The Popup Café in Deal.

Not only is their coffee divine (they take their coffee very seriously here), you can choose from their delicious vegetarian brunch menu, featuring favourites such as halloumi, roast sweet potato, avocado, scrambled eggs with harrisa, dukka and sourdough toast.

All their eggs are organic and their milk is from a single estate dairy. Vegans are also well catered for.

Filberts

Filberts in Deal is a lovely deli, with wonderful coffee and great sandwiches.

They don’t have a website but you can find also find them on the High Street in Deal, with their distinctive, double fronted shop.

Once inside, you will find locally made pies and pastries as well as cheeses, olives, eggs, brownies and bread.

Everything you might need for a day on the beach or brunch in your holiday cottage.

Where are the best restaurants in Deal?

The best restaurants are often a matter of opinion. But this is all about our opinion and here are some of our favourites:

The Rose

The Rose in Deal is welcoming bar and restaurant, open seven days a week, for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Not only is the interior beautiful but they do the best cocktails in town, alongside a delicious food menu. Children are also well catered for, with a thoughtful menu and there is an optional outside space to dine, should the weather be agreeable.

81 Beach Street

81 Beach Street in Deal offers fine dining by the beach, and features a wonderful evening menu alongside views out to sea to die for!

We love their warm welcome for everyone, including children, and varied menu which includes chargrill steaks as well as fresh fish and seafood.

The Zetland Arms

The Zetland Arms can be found right on the beach in Kingsdown and offers seafood, sunsets and stunning views of the ocean!

Expect freshly caught fish and seafood straight from the Kent coast, cooked up for you for either lunch or dinner.

Perfect when paired with a walk along the beach. Or a cold glass of Sauvignon Blanc, as you watch the sun go down.

Frog and Scot

The Frog and Scot is, by its own admission, a lively French bistro in the heart of Deal.

Featured in the 2020 MICHELIN Guide, this eating house (owned by both French and Scottish owners) offers fantastic food in unpretentious surroundings.

Perfect for that special meal out to celebrate an anniversary or landmark birthday.
